2. Can I try a free Jiu-Jitsu class before signing up?
Yes. Gracie Barra Trussville offers a free trial class so you can experience our academy, meet our instructors, and see if it feels like the right fit. You can book your free trial online or contact us directly.
3. What are Gracie Barra’s prices for Jiu-Jitsu classes?
Our current membership options are shown above: 6-Month, 3-Month, and Month-to-Month. Each option clearly shows what is charged at enrollment and the monthly tuition that begins after your first 30 days.
4. Are there cancellation fees or contract requirements?
There is no separate cancellation fee. A 45-day notice applies to the 3- and 6-month memberships. Month-to-Month has no long-term commitment and does not require a 45-day notice.
5. How do I upgrade or downgrade my membership?
Just speak with our front desk team. We’ll help you choose the membership option that best matches your schedule and training goals.
6. What should I wear to my free Jiu-Jitsu trial class?
For your trial class, you can wear comfortable athletic clothing (like a t-shirt and shorts or leggings) with no zippers, buttons, or jewelry. If needed, Gracie Barra Trussville can provide a uniform (Gi) for your trial class so you can get the full experience.
7. Do you offer No-Gi BJJ classes?
Yes. Gracie Barra Trussville offers both Gi and No-Gi training (based on the schedule). No-Gi is great for improving movement, athletic grappling, and self-defense skills. Check our schedule for current class times.
8. Is there a minimum age requirement for kids’ Jiu-Jitsu classes?
Yes. Our kids program starts at age 3. Little Champions 1 (LC1) welcomes children ages 3–6, Monday–Thursday at 4:15 PM. Classes are organized by age and skill level, with a focus on confidence, discipline, coordination, and respectful teamwork. Contact us and we’ll help you choose the best class for your child.
9. Is there a mandatory uniform for students, and where can it be purchased?
Yes. Students are required to wear the official Gracie Barra uniform (Gi) during Gi classes. You can purchase it directly at Gracie Barra Trussville, or directly through the GB Wear online store. Wearing the official uniform helps with safety, consistency, and academy standards.
10. What is the cost of a Jiu-Jitsu uniform (Gi) at Gracie Barra?
For new members, the official Gracie Barra Gi and Rashguard are included in the start-up package shown above. Pricing for additional or replacement uniforms varies by model and size. Please contact our front desk for current options.
11. Can I freeze my membership if I go on vacation or get injured?
Yes. Memberships can be frozen for 30, 60, or 90 days when needed. A $15 monthly freeze fee applies during the freeze period. Contact our front desk if you need help setting up a freeze.
12. Do you have women’s-only classes?
Gracie Barra Trussville offers women-focused training options (based on schedule) and may also host women’s events. Contact us or check the schedule to see the current women’s Jiu-Jitsu class availability.
13. Do you have Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competition preparation classes?

14. Do you have open mat classes?

15. Is it mandatory to participate in BJJ competitions?
Not at all. Competing is always optional. Many students train only for fitness, self-defense, and personal growth. That said, if you do want to compete, we’ll support you and help you prepare.
16. Are private Jiu-Jitsu classes available at Gracie Barra?
